Roly Ortega

Hello. My name is Roland Ortega, Jr., but everybody calls me "Roly" or “TheRolyPoly.” I'm fine with either but not my real name. I'm 27 years old and a blog poster for "Changing Newscasts."

I'm currently working towards becoming a radio broadcaster and podcaster, having gained knowledge and skills needed from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. I have an A.A. in Telecommunication from Miami-Dade College.

I've been working on my blog since Monday, August 11th, 2014 as a founder, owner, and blog poster of a one-man-band operation. Viewed 943K times as of Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022, my blog has been recognized (either on Twitter or Facebook) by 70 local TV stations and 97 different journalists and/or news professionals, which includes news directors and behind-the-scenes people, 1 radio station (98.1 KISC Spokane) and 1 media company (TEGNA) as of Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022.

I created a second franchise on Monday, May 1st, 2017 called "Public Media Fans." Available right now on Twitter (@PubMediaFans), this is where I report on the latest news in public media and show support for public broadcasting.

I was formerly an "O.G." for a Top 40 CHR radio station called "GHQ," broadcasting at 95.3 FM (W237EJ) in Gainesville, Fla. and also heard on 89.1 WUFT-FM-HD3 in both Gainesville and Ocala. I was on-the-air four days a week when I left in Fall of 2019:

- Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:00-3:00 p.m. ("Roly on the Radio")

- Saturdays from 8:00-10:00 p.m. ("The Saturday Night Music Mix"; also in podcast form)

I found content to talk about on-air on GHQ. (GHQ.fm and the GHQ Mobile App - FREE for Apple and Android + GHQfm on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram). I was the inaugural co-podcast leader at 95.3 GHQ FM, developing and launching our station's podcast network.

I soft-launched my own one-man-band production company in 2020 called "TheRolyPoly Productions," where everything I produce from radio and podcasts to newsletters and websites verges under one umbrella.

Other than broadcasting, I love watching sports, Family Guy (though it's been years now), and reporting and observing on TV news and public media.
