Jacob J. Erickson
Assistant Professor of Theological Ethics in Dublin, Ireland
Jake is Assistant Professor of Theological Ethics at Trinity College Dublin. He's a constructive theologian, and most recently served as Instructor of Religion and Environmental Studies at St. Olaf College. His current project,A Theopoetics of the Earth, attempts to evoke an ecotheology of planetary conviviality--the cherishing of life together--in the midst of current ecological crises. Erickson's writing meditates on the complex relationships of earth and divinity, contemporary environmental ethics and queer theory, classical Christian theologies and contemporary constructive theopoetics.
Erickson is a contributor to Living Traditions and Universal Conviviality: Prospects and Challenges for Peace in Multireligious Communities, eds. Roland Faber and Santiago Slabodsky (Lexington Books, 2016), For Our Common Home, eds. John Cobb and Ignacio Castuera (Process Century Press 2016), Divine Multiplicity, eds. Wesley Ariarajah and Christopher Boesel (Fordham Press, 2014) and Divinanimality: Animal Theory, Creaturely Theology, ed. Stephen Moore (Fordham Press, 2014). His book reviews and writings have appeared in such places as Religion Dispatches, Word & World, the Anglican Theological Review, and elsewhere. His Religion Dispatches piece "Falling in Love with the Earth: [Pope] Francis' Faithful Ecology" won the Wilbur Award from the Religion Communicators Council.
Originally from North Dakota, Jake is continually inspired by the manifold voices of the prairie and his family's farm. He's also served "Ecotheologian in Residence" at and was a proud charter member of Mercy Seat Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. He holds an M.Div. from Yale Divinity School ('09) and a B.A. from St. Olaf College ('06).
