Jay Patel of Atlanta, Georgia, serves as a general partner of Chelsea Capital Partners, a boutique investment fund specializing in commercial real estate and distressed assets. Jay Patel’s responsibilities include origination of all proprietary investments, credit and underwriting, financing and transaction closing, asset management and disposition. Additionally, Jay Patel develops and operates franchised hotels under brands such as Marriott, Hilton and IHG. He also participated in the firm’s acquisition of the Budgetel brand from the Blackstone Group in 2007.

Prior to joining Chelsea Capital Partners, Jay Patel spent several years in New York City in Principal Finance and Structured Finance for Goldman Sachs. In this role, he served many well-known companies, including Ford, Capital One, General Electric, MBNA, Sallie Mae, and Citibank.

Patel’s successes at Goldman Sachs include advising a consortium of investors in securitizing assets to finance the leveraged buyout of professional services company Aramark for $10 billion. He also helped Ford Motor Company conduct its $15.7 billion sale of Hertz, providing valuable quantitative analysis of fleet and equipment assets, including the execution of a $4.2 billion rental car securitization.

After graduating from New York University with a bachelor’s degree in economics, Patel began his career at GE Capital, where he oversaw the securitization of loans in various sectors and managed multi-billion-dollar commercial paper conduit.
