Jean Harper

Indiana

I am a nonfiction writer, living in the Midwest. I live on a small farm with my husband, our horses, dogs, and several cats. You can see for miles from where we live, a view that overlooks wide fields of corn and beans, alfalfa and grass. It is a lovely place to live and to write.

My writing has appeared or is forthcoming in the Iowa Review, North American Review, Yemassee Review, Harpur Palate, Cimarron Review, and elsewhere. Several of those writings are excerpts from my nonfiction book manuscript Still Life with Horses. Most recently an excerpt from the book won The Florida Review Editors Award for Nonfiction and will appear in 2013. My first book, Rose City: A Memoir of Work, won the Mid-List Press First Series Award.

My writing has been supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Indiana Arts Commission, Indiana University, and residencies at Yaddo, MacDowell, and the Virginia Center for the Arts.
