John Fischer
New York, Ny.
Hi,
My name is John Fischer. Welcome to my homepage. I am 22 and have a BA in journalism from Stony Brook University and a minor in political science. If I am not putting together videos or writing stories, you can find me with a good book or on Netflix, catching up on shows.
I currently freelance for Newsday.com, covering daily hyperlocal news from proms and graduations to world record attempts.
I recently interned for ABC News, working on the national website where I covered crime, tech and human interest pieces while pitching stories for high-profile subjects including the Ebola outbreak, Ferguson, Garner and the Sydney hostage crisis.
I also interned for Medical Daily, where I covered healthcare, medical technology, Ebola and experimental drugs while also managing social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.
My other experiences include The Long Island Press and Patch.com along with on-campus experiences such as The Stony Brook Press, a bi-weekly student paper where I served as a news editor, reporter and internship coordinator. I worked as a production assistant and camera operator for Stony Brook SportsBreak, a sports program run by journalism students and was also part of The Stony Brook News, a weekly broadcast produced by journalism students, where I took on a number of roles from reporting to producing.
Here is a link to my senior capstone project about a New York State plan to eliminate mute swans, an invasive species, in the state by 2025.
