With over 30 years of experience culminating in 5 Golden Reel Awards from 15 nominations, 2 Emmys from 7 nominations, numerous record labels, the production of sixteen feature films, and as the owner of several production companies, James Lifton is a stand out in the music and entertainment industries. His label, Orphan Records, helped to pioneer "House Music" labels in the US. Through it, he promoted his own work, which was nominated by Billboard Magazine for "Best Independent Production of the Year" as a result of his efforts to get it on the charts.

Other entertainers have benefited from his efforts as well. Over the years, he has negotiated feature film and record-licensing contracts (foreign and domestic), has overseen the collection of revenue, and has held the offices of President and CEO of two production/distribution feature film mini-studios. More currently, Lifton co-founded the THX post-production facility, Oracle Post, which provides picture and sound needs to feature films and television productions. This award-winning, nine-stage facility has a client base consisting of such industry giants as Fox, HBO, NBC, Universal, Disney, Nickelodeon, Paramount, Sony, Warner Brothers, and MTV.

In 2009/2010, James Lifton self-financed the Lifton Institute in an effort to train skilled but out-of-work laborers for employment within the Movie and TV industries. In Michigan, this trade school has already reached a job placement rate of over 60%. It's new location in Los Angeles opened in the fall of 2014.
