I was born in Suriname and relocated to the U.S. at the age of 13. I speak Dutch, Sranang Tongo and my tribal language, Pamaka. I'm very passionate about my work and thoroughly love being a journalist. Another passion of mine is raising the awareness of the importance of culture as a basic human need.

My life has been a cultural experience, being born to an anthropologist from Oklahoma and daughter of the Captain of our tribe's Island, Langetabetje. We are Pamaka people, descendants of escaped Africans who settled on several islands along the Marowijne River between Suriname and French Guyana.

My dream of becoming a TV and, or Radio broadcaster has taken me from TX, VA, DC and NY. In 2012, I won a NYSBA Award for Best Spot News, and selected as YWCA Outstanding Woman of the Year in Arts & Communications in New York's Mohawk Valley. I'm a former anchor, producer, and radio talk show host in upstate NY.
