Jonathan Leschinski

Melbourne, Australia

For two years at age 17, I lived in an international intentional community at the United World College of Costa Rica (UWC) where I learnt the value of cultural diversity. I volunteered and worked my way across 40+ countries over 18 months to find my way home.

Further studies in cross-cultural communication lead to briefly co-producing a show on RRR Community Radio, and living in Cuba studying at the Centre for Applied Linguistics for 8 months in 2013.

I have served on the UWC Australia National Committee Board coordinating other volunteers while successfully increasing application rates through targeted campaigns as well as fundraising for several full scholarships.

As of 2014, I volunteering with AIME (Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience) and I am a co-founder of Melbourne's first Student and Youth Housing Co-operative; Bareport.

I believe in facilitating supportive and empowering networks for youth, while introducing them to social justice and responsibility.

I hope to use my media and cross cultural communication skills to help promote positive and independent messages from underrepresented and misrepresented peoples.
