Associate professor of Applied Economics at the University of Malaga (Spain). PhD in Economics from University of Malaga with special doctoral prize. MSc in Urban and Regional Policy and Expertize in European Environmental Law at the UC3M.

He teaches multivariate statistics and data mining for business among other topics. Castro has published several policy-oriented articles in academic journals and conference volumes in the fields of ecological economics, regional economics and international cooperation.

Among other books he is co/author: The urban and industrial environment in Andalusia (1999), The Strategic Plan of Malaga (1993), Indicator framework for urban environment in Andalusia (2001), Local Agenda 21 in Andalusia (2001), Urban Sustainable Development Indicators in Andalusia (2004), Malaga Sustainability Report (2008).

Castro coordinated the Observatory for Sustainability in Malaga (2006-2008) an served as consultant on urban planning and sustainability for local councils, the regional government in Andalusia and the Ministry of Environment in Spain.
