SMEM and VOST Practitioner, Consultant, Trainer, Speaker
- I help Emergency Managers and Government agencies, NGOs and business, set up and administer social media accounts including Facebook and Twitter.
- I assist SMEM Project Consultants with delivering Training and Workshops for Emergency Managers and first responders, providing both in person and remote support on an ad hoc and contractual basis.
- I'm an experienced Virtual Operations Support practitioner, working on the VOST concept since its inception in March 2011.
- I'm the Team Lead IC for NY VOST, which most recently supported the NY Suffolk County FRES (Fire Rescue and Emergency Services) public response and engagement on social networks for Hurricane Sandy / Nor'Easter. NYVOST.org
- I design and build mobile responsive Wordpress websites, SMEM.co.nz and Emergency20Wiki.org for example.
- I'm a founding member of the global VOST Leadership Coalition, and sponsor the website www.VOSG.us.
- As a NY Suffolk County CERT member, I have knowledge and understanding of NIMS and the ICS, as well as training in first aid, light search and rescue, shelter management and E-Team. I'm not qualified to put out a real fire in anything larger than a waste paper basket, but I know how to stop an online fire spreading from actionable misinformation fueling social networks.
- My other job is a NYS Licensed Real Estate Broker and I'm a Director and Company Secretary of The Hamptons and North Fork REALTORS® Association , covering the five east end towns of Long Island, New York.
- Born in the United Kingdom, I have a media and broadcasting background, mainly in Film and TV production for the BBC for 14 years.
- I won an Academy Award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) for design work. More important, I created a fundraising character called Pudsey Bear for the BBC Charity Children In Need. Pudsey continues to capture public imagination in an annual fundraiser for disadvantaged British children.
- I believe that harnessing the power of Social Media to bridge Emergency Management for the benefit of the general public is one of the greatest humanitarian aid and disaster response opportunities of our time.
