John V. Jurica, MD, MPH, CPE
Doctor, Small Business Owner, and Blogger in Manteno, Illinois
I am a Certified Physician Executive, working full time as medical director for PromptMed Urgent Care in Waukegan, Illinois, and previously as Senior VP and Chief Medical Officer for Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois. My focus has been on improving quality and safety, and on recruiting, contract negotiation and building strong clinical teams.
My training is in Family Medicine, Public Health and Physician Leadership. I write a blog called the VITAL Physician Executive in which I share my experiences as a physician executive and thoughts on management, leadership and highly effective executive teams.
I also produce a podcast called Physician Nonclinical Careers. Each week I interview a physician who has successfully transitioned to a nonclinical career or side hustle.
I have 30 years of experience in continuing medical education planning and accreditation. I am a CME program surveyor for the Illinois State Medical Society, and I did surveys for the Accreditation Council for CME (ACCME) for 25 years.
I also work part-time as a Division Planner/Editor for CE Resource, Inc., (also known as NetCE) a producer of continuing education for physicians and other healthcare professionals.
I am a member of the Kankakee County Medical Society Board, the Hospice of Kankakee Valley Board and the Kankakee County Board of Health.
I am an active proponent and participant in senior athletics, competing in masters track meets in my age group in the 100- and 200-meter dash, through the National Senior Games and USATF. And I enjoy playing bluegrass guitar in my spare time.
