John Knox (1514-2014)

Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom

Thomas Carlyle gave this assessment of the man who led the Reformation in Scotland and shaped a nation. Today, however, John Knox (c. 1514 – 24 November 1572) is mentioned with mere contempt by many. It is time to get behind the caricature of a harsh, unfeeling, firebrand prophet to the reality. His greatest biographer, Thomas M'Crie wrote that Knox's memory has suffered at the hands of those who "from prejudice, from ignorance, or from inattention, have exhibited a distorted caricature, instead of a genuine portrait".
