Wearable Technology. Human-Computer Interaction. Ubiquitous Computing. Is this our future? It could be. The ideas above share a significant element, however; it’s humans. True, people make and use and change technology—people like me even wear it—however we understand little about the mechanisms technology uses to changes us.

This relationship between people, our digital technology, and our world is what I study as a digital anthropologist. If we want to design the products and services of tomorrow, we must understand the role someone’s culture plays in shaping how they experience their world: how they perceive it, engage with it in meaningful ways that matter to them, and why this is critical to any project’s success.
