Joseph Chinnock

Joseph Chinnock has written a series of articles detailing all the major treks in Nepal and how to complete them, unhurried, in a week or less beginning with the Annapurna Circuit Trek and the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. There are also three of the major treks in Tibet including the Mt. Kailash.
Most treks in Nepal and Tibet suggest two weeks for completion, but this does not take into account the fact that many treks have been marred by roads (The Annapurna Circuit now has a road on either side of the trek) which lowers the quality of the trekking experience. The two week suggestion also limits many visitors to one trek on their trip while the real cost in trekking is getting there in the first place. It doesn't make sense to travel to Nepal or Tibet only to walk along a dusty, dirt road being passed by buses, cars and trucks. There's a better way.
These articles will take you step by step and day by day on each trek detailing the best places for photographs, the best guesthouses and routes, how to avoid avalanche and flood areas and the best times to go. Each article is also illustrated with photos and some maps detailing the trek.
Sections include: The Trek day by day, 5 Greatest Locations to Take Breathtaking Photos, 5 Things to Bring and 5 Things to Leave Behind, 5 Nepali Words you Need to Know, Getting Your Permits, How to Negotiate, How to Hire a Guide, How to Stay Healthy on the Trek, What to do in Case of Emergency and What Not to Do, Food on the Trek, and How to Avoid Altitude Sickness.
Likewise there are sections on navigating Kathmandu, Pokhara and Lhasa as well as sports options like rafting, skiing and horse back riding as well as medical, cultural and logistical considerations. Everything you need to know to make your trek safe and enjoyable.
