Joseph Getter

Joseph Getter is a creative world musician. He composes and performs with dancEnlight modern dance company, Art Farm and Oddfellows Playhouse theater companies, kirtan singer Shubalananda, soul-funk band The House of Moses, and more. He plays many instruments and genres, including experimental music on woodwinds, the bamboo flute of South India as a soloist and accompanist for Bharatanatyam dance, and gamelan music of Java, Indonesia, as member of the Wesleyan Gamelan, and guest with the Boston Village Gamelan and Gamelan Kusuma Laras in New York.

Joseph is also a scholar and educator, directing the Youth Gamelan at Wesleyan, and teaching woodwinds, ethnomusicology, and world music at Southern Connecticut State University, University of New Haven, Independent Day School, and Green Street Arts Center. He is a disciple of the late Dr. T. Viswanathan, and has degrees from Oberlin College and Wesleyan University.
