Joseph Hernandez is the senior service editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer, where he collaborates across the newsroom on stories about breaking news, civics and community, arts, culture and food.

He previously served as the Inquirer's deputy food editor; research director at Bon Appétit; and senior editor at The Chicago Tribune, Thrillist, SevenFifty Daily, and Wine Enthusiast. He has written for Eater, Condé Nast Traveler, Men's Health and many others. He proudly served as an organizer for both the Chicago Tribune Guild (for which he also served as a steward) and the Conde Nast Union, in association with the NewsGuild.

He is a fellow of both the Poynter Institute's Leadership Academy for Diversity in Media and the National Critics Institute, the winner of the Frank G. Prial Fellowship at the Symposium for Professional Wine Writers, and a former vice-chair for the James Beard Award Restaurant and Chefs committee. He’s also an honorary cavaleiro (knight) with the Brotherhood of Port Winemakers and holds multiple advanced wine education certifications, but he's not a somm.
