Joshua Okello

I am presently a third year Information Systems student at Makerere University, developer, poet, blogger and writer. I am a self-taught programmer with over a year's experience as a web developer and presently venturing into Window 8 and Windows phone development.

I am passionate about technology and literature as tools for economic and social change. One of my mottos is "Give me a pen and computer and I will try to change the world."

When I am not coding a solution to address a need(like the diet application that came second in the Orange Community Innovation Awards,2012 or WinSenga, a mobile antenatal care solution that made top 20 in the Imagine Cup 2012 Worldwide Finals in Sydney, Australia), I am writing. I am a member of the Lantern Meet of Poets, Uganda's largest and oldest poetry association, where I co-manage a project to develop and nurture the reading and writing culture in schools. I am also chief editor of a student-based technology e-zine, CITeZine.
