Julian Scott Wilson

Teacher, Musician, and Director in Gastonia, North Carolina

I am the director of bands at York Chester Middle School (since 2000) and have been teaching in the Gaston County School system, since 1998.

In my years of service, I have had the honor of being: York Chester Middle School's Teacher of the Year (2002-03; 2011-12), Gaston County's Family Advocate of the Year (2005), chosen to coordinate praise and worship with my church praise team, the first church plant to do so, at the North Carolina State Baptist Convention(2006). Gaston County Schools Teacher of the Year (2011-12), and finalist for North Carolina Teacher of the Year (2012-13). I have also been a featured presenter at the NCMLE (North Carolina Association for Middle Level Education) Conference(2017).

I am involved in church leadership at Blessed Assurance Outreach Ministries, by serving as a deacon and as minister of music. I also play professionally in the Charlotte metro area as a freelance musician and as a member of the jazz duo the Booker Wilson Band.

The York Chester school groups, where i teach, are in constant demand to play events from opening for the Charlotte Civic Orchestra's Pops in the Park series & playing for the Gaston Arts Council's Music Series to playing for any number of civic organizations in the community.

The Concert Band has also been awarded the "Mickey"(2010 & 2012), after being chosen by audition to perform at Disneyworld & the Jazz Band has received the "Performing Artist Award" from the Piedmont Links Chapter. Currently I am a member of NAfME, NCAE, NEA, MBDNA, ISTE, JEN, & NCMEA.

I am blessed to have a wonderful family with my wife Althea, my son Aiden, and my daughter Addison. Aiden and I love to make music and play games on PBS kids. Addison is my adventurous little one & we like to climb and play outside. My wife Althea, "Thea", is a fellow educator. When I am not at school, I love my family time.
