Juan Gonzalo Angel Restrepo

Bogota, Columbia

Juan Gonzalo Angel Restrepo has brought cable television to more than 90 percent of Colombia. He laid the groundwork for this feat while working with Pacific Cable Company, a business he cofounded. During Restrepo's tenure, Pacific Cable Company established a fiber-optic cable network throughout northeastern Colombia. Today, as President of Global Media Television, Juan Gonzalo Angel Restrepo harnesses the power of that network to support cable franchises around the country. In addition to his work in his home country, Juan Gonzalo Angel Restrepo has established key partnerships in the international community, closing contracts with Latin American countries, as well as Spain and the United States. His prominence and success have earned Restrepo the nickname “King of Cable,” and his most recent ventures suggest the title is no exaggeration. Last year, Angel launched News Channel, Colombia’s first 24-hour cable news network. In its first year on the air, News Channel garnered number-one rankings and established a viewer base of more than five million. Restrepo credits the channel’s success to his insistence on diversity: News Channel’s mission is to provide relevant and insightful interviews and news analysis from a broad range of perspectives. Despite his resounding success thus far, Juan Gonzalo Angel Restrepo remains realistic about the changing face of technology and television. In interviews, he has acknowledged that media markets change constantly and has expressed a desire to develop products that evolve to keep pace with the market’s dynamic demands. Before launching his career in cable, Juan Gonzalo Angel Restrepo graduated from Universidad Nacional with a degree in Engineering and from European Business School with an MBA. In his leisure time, Angel enjoys skiing, scuba diving, playing video games, and traveling the world.
