Jonathan Wenk
Father, care taker, and CNA in Frederica, Delaware
Hello, my name is Jonathan. I am a personal care provider/helper. My goal is to provide the client as well as the caregiver with peace of mind and the best service possible through attentiveness to both person's needs, goals, and abilities.
Even though I have had my license for CNA since 2012, I have spent a majority of my life around handicapped/disabled individuals. As a matter of fact, one of my best friends today is the paraplegic gentleman that lives down the road from my childhood home. We became friends when I was 8 years old as I was trying to earn money for video games. Through spending time with him, I learned how to make sure he maintained his dignity as well as enjoyed our time together along with getting the job done.
Also, my stepfather is a disabled Navy veteran and while growing up we spent a lot of quality time together. I always want him, and all patients in my care, to maintain their dignity and show them respect. I do not want anyone in my care to feel that I am "only there for a paycheck" or feel as though it is an obligation.
After I moved to Delaware, I got a job at the Veterans Assisted Living Center. After working there for a year, I decided that I wanted to be able to provide more personal care and assistance as well as return back to college to pursue a degree. While continuing to work part-time at the Veterans Home, I took on a wonderful couple and attended college and maintained a 3.25 GPA. With the unexpected blessing of a child, I had to "drop back and punt" and my significant other and I decided to buy a fixer-upper home. I resigned from the Veterans Home and put college on hold as I acquired more clients.
I have been with clients from the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's through the end. I have had the pleasure of taking my clients to car shows and varies outings.By showing friendship and building a bond, I have witnessed lasting positive effects that have helped them through their most trying times.
Being a handyman myself, I have worked with several caretakers through their "honey-do" list, which has allowed them to feel relieved of some extra burdens and accomplished. My desire is to provide both the patient and caregiver with the best service possible. I believe that everyone deserves to feel comfortable and reassured while their needs are met.
