QUALIFICATIONS:

Have 25 years of management experience as a fire department chief officer and as an Associate Professor at Tulsa Community College. Hold Oklahoma certification as a fire inspector/code enforcement officer, fire service instructor level II, hazardous materials technician, aircraft rescue firefighter (ARFF), and Oklahoma law enforcement officer. Have published articles on rope rescue, critical incident stress, fire department communications, worker’s compensation, and fire service leadership in national fire service publications.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

The Fire and Emergency Services Program at Tulsa Community College received national recognition when it was selected as a model fire science program by the National Fire Academy in 2003. Enrollment in the FES program at Tulsa Community College has more than doubled since my employment with the College began in 1998.

August 1998 to July 2013: Tulsa Community College. Taught five college courses per semester. Served as the Fire and Emergency Medical Services Program Manager.

March 1988 to November 1998: Chief Officer, Tulsa Fire Department. Served in the positions of Chief of Research and Development, Chief of Training, and Chief of Emergency Medical Services. Directly supervised up to ten employees.

Certified as a hazardous materials technician, aircraft rescue firefighter (ARFF), fire inspector/code enforcement officer, arson investigator, law enforcement officer, fire service instructor, online instructor, and online course developer.

EDUCATION AND HONORS:

2024, PhD in Management; 2004, Master of Science in Executive Leadership, 4.0 GPA; 1983, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, 1984, 4.0 GPA; Associate in Applied Science (fire protection technology), 1973, Graduated with high honors.

1993, Executive Fire Officer Program, National Fire Academy, Emmitsburg, Maryland, an eight-week fire officer development program addressing executive development, emergency operations, risk management and executive leadership. I was the first Chief Officer on the Tulsa Fire Department to attain the Executive Fire Officer certification.

Received the Tulsa Community College Instructor-Adviser of the year award, 2002.

COMMUNITY SERVICE:

Serve as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, Tulsa Fire Fighters Credit Union. Served as a Reserve (unpaid) Deputy for Tulsa County for twenty years (1993 to 2013). Have played Taps for deceased military veterans, firefighters and law enforcement officers at no charge for the past 35 years.
