Kalu Ikeagwu
Lagos, Nigeria.
Since having his dreams of being a rock star dashed to the 'rocks' by his traditional father at age six, Kalu got his next opportunity to express himself aesthetically thirteen years later in university when he played Lejoka Brown in Ola Rotimi's "Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again" and has remained stuck to his craft since. Upon graduating in English Literature from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Kalu, forayed into the movie world first in the UK by doing various student film projects before returning to Nigeria in 2004 to feature in Emem Isong's For Real and Fragile Pain which earned him a nomination for the Best Newcomer award at the AMAA 2005. He has gone on to feature in several AMAA and AMVCA and NMA award winning movies such as Broken, Damage, Two Brides and a Baby, Blue Flame and Journey to Self to mention a few. Not known by many though, is that Kalu is also something of a closet writer, a discipline that he was steered into as a suitable alternative to the 'unserious' music career by his father, and took to as an agama lizard to ants. To delve into this weird and wonderful world of Kalu's thoughts is to delve into kaluikeagwu.blogspot.com where he shares his intimate and often humorous views on life as he sees it with his ardently dedicated readers. His latest foray, or should we say return to his second love, the first having expired at age six, is one which he looks forward to with much gusto as he anticipates once again having a prolonged intimacy with his audience and his co-actors on stage in Closer.
