Kam S. Phillips

Kam Phillips believes in the power of shaking stigmas and dreaming beyond the status quo. Upon the realization of the unique outlook her experiences in areas such as rodeo, skiing, and ballet folklorico dancing provided, Phillips, a first generation college student, created Dream Outside the Box (DOTB). DOTB mobilizes college students to engage youth in dream deserts in imaginative career and extracurricular experiences to propel children towards higher education. Since creating the program in 2009, DOTB has expanded to college campuses around the country, been honored by President Obama at the White House as a "Campus Champion of Change", recognized as one of three "mtvU Top of the Class" award winners and featured on CNN/HLN highlighting Phillips' journey on their "Leaders with Heart" segment. In 2011, Phillips was honored as a Harry S. Truman Scholar and was proud to represent Dream Outside the Box as the centennial University of Missouri Homecoming Queen. In her free time, Kam can be found chasing calves and riding horses while ranching with her family.
