Kathryn Hopper

Over the years, Kathryn Hopper has worked in professional capacities as an account manager and marketing consultant, but she never abandoned her dream to work as an independent artist. Building on a formal education at Columbia University and Northwestern University, she has studied a broad range of creative pursuits, including encaustic painting, black and white photography, ceramics, textiles and finishes, drawing, welding, writing, tile-making, and more. She has pursued her ongoing education at venues ranging from Chicago’s Lillstreet Art Center and the Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan, Connecticut, to New York City’s Parsons The New School of Design, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, and the New York School of Interior Design. In 2003, Kathryn Hopper began to focus solely on her art. Starting with work in clay, Ms. Hopper specialized in ceramic sculpture and tile-making. Her tiles incorporate traditional American fabric and textile designs. She has also put together an extensive portfolio of black and white photographs, concentrating on landscapes, animals, and political satire. Kathryn Hopper is now branching out into collage work, combining her photography with other media. One of her ceramic sculptures, entitled “Pods,” was installed in a private residence in Greenwich, Connecticut, in 2010. Currently living in Cos Cob, Connecticut, Kathryn Hopper has supported charitable endeavors concerning adult day care and inadequate housing. She formerly served as a board member with the Shelter for the Homeless in Stamford, Connecticut.
