Kay Mendoza Coast Redwood

Santa Cruz, CA

Kay Mendoza, an accomplished educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area, is currently a Supervising Teacher at Coast Redwood High School, a learning environment that offers homeschool learning, independent study programs, and blended programs. There, she mentors, instructs, evaluates, and supervises a varied student body that includes high-risk, disadvantaged, autistic, and nonnative learners. Kay Mendoza began her career teaching child-development and parenting skills at Los Gatos-Saratoga Observation Nursery School, where she led workshops aimed at educating parents on a wide range of topics, from raising multiple children to the importance of play. Appointed to her present position at Coast Redwood in 1997, Ms. Mendoza was tasked with establishing an academic program that could address the growing challenges involved in childhood education.

An integral part of the Coast Redwood team, Ms. Mendoza acts as a lead program teacher. Certified to teach K-12 General Education and 9-12 English Language Arts, she primarily teaches humanities courses, such as music appreciation, art appreciation, and English. Since 2000, she has also been instrumental in adopting technology that supports the school’s online and blended instructional curriculum. In 2012, she completed training through the Leading Edge Certification program, becoming an Online and Blended Classroom Developer, Facilitator, and Instructor. A supervising homeschool teacher as well, she is responsible for developing program goals and ensuring that both parents and students receive instructional support, resources, and career and college preparatory services.

Ms. Mendoza pursued her education at Trinity University, Stanford University, and San Jose State University. In addition, she possesses a wide range of professional credentials, including the CLAD-SIOP certificate and SLVUSD-Marzano and Facilitation certificates. She has participated in a variety professional functions, most recently the SLVUSD (San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District) Technology Summit in 2010.
