Keely Chaisson

Los Angeles, CA

Already a long-time tutor with a particular love for helping discouraged students come to appreciate the wonders of math and science, Keely realized during a Biology PhD program at UCLA that, as deeply as she loved science, being a researcher first and an educator second was getting her priorities a little bit backwards. If the world were a slightly different place, she might still be giddily unearthing the secrets of parasitic worm biology, but given the demands of a modern career in academic research and the annoying reality of having only one life to live, a sharp course correction was in order.

Keely left her PhD program with a Master's degree in 2013, and has since further developed her skills as an educator through full-time work as a tutor, working with students from middle school through early college on math and science, essay writing, study skills, and college applications. She has a particular interest in educational programs built with an understanding of the psychology and neuroscience of learning and development, and in adapting education to meet the needs of students with learning differences. Keely believes that educating students about how to learn effectively empowers them to become more active, independent, and joyful learners.

Keely currently serves as the Director of Curriculum Development and as a Senior Tutor for Vault Prep, a tutoring agency in Santa Monica, CA.
