Kendyl Young
Artist in Greater Los Angeles Area
I have always been creative, but I never thought I could create art.
At the start of 2023, I was tired of baking sourdough bread, and I had knit more sweaters, hats, and scarves than I could ever wear in warm Southern California.
It was time for a change, and what is better than the excitement of learning something new?
I started with those cheap and easy online art classes, but I just spun my wheels. Then, I took an in-person class at the local community center, and the gates opened up! I hope we never mistake remote learning for the real thing.
But the key to my seemingly quick success with art is failure. I paint or draw constantly, and a lot of it is terrible. Fortunately, some of it is pretty good, so I keep going.
I love spending time with my UrbanSketchers- a motley crew of amazing artists and good people (and quite a few are both). We meet up at various Greater LA locations and draw/paint what we see. You can see upcoming events on their Facebook Page. I also take classes at the Creative Arts Group in Sierra Madre.
I started selling my art by creating printed notecards and Gicleé prints, which are available on my Etsy Shop. I also sell selected original work, mostly by request.
I love new challenges, so you never know what I might experiment with next. The best way to keep track of my artistic journey is to follow me on Instagram or Facebook.
