Kirstie Magowan

New Zealand

With a huge passion for writing I started work as a newspaper journalist in 1983 on a small bi-weekly country newspaper in the Waikato region of New Zealand. Responsible for court reporting, agricultural news and general reporting, I was also able to indulge my love of photography by taking and processing all the photos for the paper.

After taking time out from a full time writing role to have a family - during which time I undertook various voluntary roles for different organisations, including a term as National President for Parent to Parent NZ, I also kept my writing skills exercised as a freelance writer for a number of specialist publications - I found myself, quite unexpectedly, working in IT, as Service Desk Manager for Craig and Co., later to become ABN Amro Craigs (Currently Craigs Investment Partners).

I discovered IT Service Management and found that I was quite good at it, as a result of this I became involved in the work of the IT Service Management Forum in New Zealand and then at an International level as a member, and then Endorsement Officer, of IPESC (International Publishing Executive Sub Committee).

In 2009 I acccepted a role as Chief Editor for the international body of itSMF, allowing me to bring together my passion for writing with my skills in IT Service Management. Since tthat time I completed a diploma of publishing. I edited the international Magazine - At Your Service, sourced authors for books in the itSMFI collection, designed and typeset books, administered all the publishing related contracts for the organisation and promoted the value of sharing knowledge via publishing to the 100.000+ members of itSMF globally.

I moved on from this role in 2012 and have continued to invest my time in the development of community within the ITSM industry, forming a company with Matthew Hooper called SHIFT Media, a platform designed to give a place for knowledge sharing and to allow those working in ITSM to have a voice and be rewarded for their opinions

I have continued at the coal face of ITSM and business process improvement, taking a number of short term contracts with organisations, working on improving process both within and outside of IT.

I currently write for GoToMarketers, blogging and writing thought leadership pieces for ITSM vendors around the globe.
