The reasonable woman adapts herself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to herself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable woman. I am the unreasonable woman.

I was first exposed to poverty, homelessness, and hunger when I was a student at the University of California, Berkeley. At the time, I had been training to become a Naval Officer, and it struck a very personal cord when I realized that so many impoverished individuals in my neighborhood were veterans. It blew me away to see people who had sacrificed themselves for this country begging for food on a street corner.

Food is a fundamental human right, and it's staggering that, in such a wealthy and powerful nation, so many people end up begging for it, while in our homes, restaurants, supermarkets, dining halls and offices, we waste so much of it. I have made it my mission to reach people with the message that hunger is the world’s largest and most solvable problem and that it is possible for them to help.

My latest technology-based social venture, Feeding Forward, is an online and mobile platform that leverages speed, accessibility, and real-time data to help curb hunger by encouraging and enabling businesses that have excess food inventory to request a food pickup through Feeding Forward's mobile app or website. We've already recovered over 722K pounds of food, enough to feed the entire country of Luxembourg.

I invite everyone to join me in my mission to solve the world's dumbest problem.
