Laronica Conway
Healthcare Advocate in Birmingham, Alabama
I've always been a creative person. Writing, talking, reading and laughing have always been my favorite past times. I spent much of my career managing major sporting events and working as a media and public relations professional in college athletics.
I've attended (and worked) several NCAA Men's and Women's Final Fours, numerous Southeastern Conference (SEC) Football and Basketball Championships and various other sporting events, including NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships and the NCAA Women’s College World Series. My career path has taken me all over the country and I've lived in five different states.
But my life changed drastically after my mom was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer in 2008. I knew then, that I was interested in helping others navigate the healthcare system and teaching them how to become their own advocates. I want to continue to use my skills in writing, marketing, public relations and event management in a career that allows me to help others.
I enjoy being an healthcare advocate (lung cancer especially) and helping to improve the lives of others. I am one of five founders of #LCSM (Lung Cancer Social Media), which uses social media to educate, provide support and end the stigma associated with lung cancer.
I’ve worked on the healthcare side at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, since 2017; first as as a clinical trials coordinator in the Department of Radiation Oncology and now as a Program Manager in the Center for Palliative and Supportive Care. I have been blessed to be able to make my passion a career.
I also continue to serve as a healthcare advocate and community volunteer. I currently live in Birmingham, Alabama, but I passionately embrace my rural, north Louisiana upbringing. I love spicy food, the Southern University Jaguars, the Grambling State Tigers and the Dallas Cowboys. I'm a business, current events, social media and book nerd and I spend a lot of time on Instagram, @louisianagirl91 and my “bookstagram”, @RoniLynnReads.
