Laura Petersen
Journalist, Communications, and Outreach in Nevada City, California
I have a passion for storytelling. As a Northern California journalist, I have spent nearly two decades chronicling the people and landscapes of remote corners of The West. Fascinated by folk who make a rustic livelihood from the land, my writing examines the complexity of human relationships with nature.
Regular themes of my writing include water rights & fisheries, climate change, development pressures, land conservation, agriculture, homesteading & sustainable living, outdoor recreation, native species, and indigenous cultures.
I regularly shine a light on the everyday people behind movements protecting our local food supply, public lands, parks and trails and iconic natural resources like rivers, old growth forests, and mountains of the Sierra Nevada. The lure of adventure keeps me on the road in search of creative spirits in the cultural worlds of music, art, literature, food & drink, and travel.
I am an Outreach & Communications Professional with extensive knowledge of PR & Marketing, especially in the nonprofit sector. Learn how I can custom-tailor a media package that works for you.
