Laura Carusi

Mississauga, Ontario

Laura Carusi, Animateur | Volunteer-Docent Coordinator, graduated from the History and Theory of Art program at the University of Ottawa in 2013. She has sat on the Board of Directors for Gallery 115 – the University of Ottawa’s student-run gallery – as Anglophone Communications Officer. Laura has also worked at La Petite Mort Gallery, Ottawa, as Curatorial | Communications Assistant; and began her gallery career as the Art Gallery of Mississauga’s Young Canada Works Intern and Curatorial | Programme Assistant during the summer of 2012. Laura’s areas of interest centre on both institutional critique and transnational feminist curatorial practice, and she is especially intrigued by the varying and innovative ways that women from diverse parts of the world self-consciously deploy visual culture to form new critical visual expressions. She hopes to shortly pursue Graduate Studies with a focus on the interconnectedness of museums, power and ideology, and also the power of museums to perpetuate or disrupt social order and understanding regarding issues of gender disparity.
