Leanne Koh

registered Nurse, Volunteer, and Photographer in San Francisco, California

Who are you?

I am Leanne Koh. City girl. Left-handed.

What are you?
I'm 2nd generation Chinese American.

A daughter, sister, friend, Christian, public transit rider, volunteer, concert-goer, movie and music lover who will not give up her CD player for an IPod or MP3 player.

Where are you from?
I am born and raised in San Francisco. If you really want to know, my parents are from Malaysia.

What do you do?
I'm a Registered Nurse. I'm also a former CAAMbassador and intern, and a volunteer photographer for CAAMFest presented by the Center for Asian American Media. Trying to spread the word about the festival and showcase films that Hollywood is missing out on and will probably remake as their own in later years. I'm also one of those people that gets excited every time an Asian face pops up on the big screen.

I have worked as a production assistant for documentaries and films including, The Oak Park Story and Yes, We're Open. I have helped with grassroots promotion for films including Finishing the Game: The Search for a New Bruce Lee and Surrogate Valentine.

When I'm not doing those things I'm usually looking for a good place to eat, right now I'm really in to ramen. Any suggestions? I also love going to live shows, concerts, and different events happening around the city.

What are you all about?
Ever since taking Asian American Studies courses at San Francisco State University it has opened my eyes to a different, yet real way of looking at mainstream media. I've come to appreciate what the Asian American community has to offer, which is why I love helping out artists from all mediums spread the word about their music, films, and art. I also enjoy attending and/or volunteering at events within the community.
