Bitcoin was introduced in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto although the name is just a pseudonym. No one knows the true identity of the Bitcoin creator. Bitcoins can be traded online and since they are considered a commodity themselves, their value fluctuates on a regular basis as well.
