Training Sammy was more than just training, testing and competing. It was a story that we lived together for nine and one/half years. This memoir covers the first three of these years in which I shared my retirement life with this little feisty dog. Sammy was with me in the hospital where my husband fought for his life after an infection lodged in his spine; he was with me when I visited my mother in a nursing home until she died. His presence led to meeting a multitude of people - on the sidewalks, in the park, and at the dog club… wherever we happened to be. Sammy died on May 27, 2014 of liver failure.
