Hello... my name is Lonnie and I am the Peace Corps Representative here at the University Career Center. My wife and I served with the Peace Corps in Uganda, East Africa from 2006-2008 and we found the experience to be very meaningful. One of the great advantages with my job is that I get to share my Peace Corps story every day with students. Serving as a volunteer gives you the chance to be fully immersed in another culture and to grow as a person. Besides learning about another culture and language, being a volunteer is great for building a resume. There is a chance for deferment and cancellation of student loans as well as graduate and Fellowship opportunities. There are medical benefits and a readjustment allowance once you have finished. Finally, joining the Peace Corps gives you the opportunity to make a difference in the world.
