Lorenzo Imbesi

Lorenzo Imbesi is an Associate Professor heading the MDes Graduate Program at Carleton University, School of Industrial Design. He is Architect, PhD in Environmental Design, ICCS fellow – Canada Government, member of the Research Board of Italian and European researches and has been teaching and researching at Sapienza University of Rome (Italy) since 1997. Critic and essayist for many reviews, at the moment he is Director of 'FIELDS. An Interdisciplinary Design Journal' (http://www.id.carleton.ca/graduate/fields-report/), Co-Editor of 'Design Principles and Practices: An International Journal' (http://designprinciplesandpractices.com/publications/journal) and Co-Director of the magazine “DIID – Disegno Industriale”. He is speaker as keynote, chair for international conferences and curator of design exhibitions and events. Among his works, he is author of “InterAction by Design” (RDesignPress, 2009), “09 YoungDesign” (RDesignPress, 2009), “Ethics & Design” (RDesignPress, 2008), “D_Generation” (RDesignPress, 2007).

His interests range over Design Culture, focusing its critical expressions and theoretical implications from other disciplines connected with contemporary knowledge society and the social, cultural and ethical impact of new technologies and artifacts. Furthermore, he looks on the narrative position of objects and technology within the organization of society and the way they relate with everyday behaviors and actions. In his current research, he is analyzing the new forthcoming expressions of industry in contemporary societies and the new critical roles for design leaving industry in the Economy of Post-Production.
