Lynas Corporation
Gebeng, Malaysia
Lynas Corporation recently completed the first phase of construction of its Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (LAMP) in Gebeng, Malaysia, which involved more than 8.7 million hours of work without any Lost Time Injury. Throughout construction, Lynas Corporation has demonstrated a commitment to maintaining the highest employee safety standards, as well as to surpassing regulatory requirements. The company works closely with Malaysia's Atomic Energy Licensing Board to address community concerns about LAMP and is committed to gaining social support by striving for excellence in safety, health and protecting the environment.
Lynas Corporation chose to construct its Rare Earths refinery in Malaysia because of its vision for value added industry and its well-serviced industrial infrastructure. The plant will make Malaysia a go-to destination for nearly one third of the world's rare earth element requirements delivered to a responsible new standard in processing.
LAMP serves as a refinery for Rare Earths mined by Lynas Corporation at Western Australia's Mount Weld, the world's richest known source for these elements. Also known as the Lanthanide series, Rare Earths have played an instrumental role in the creation of new technologies due to their distinctive fluorescent and magnetic properties. They have allowed for the engineering of faster and smaller devices, as well as more efficient lighting and automobile options.
Rare Earths will become even more important as engineers focus on the development of sustainable technologies. At present, China supplies the majority of Rare Earths on the market, but their availability is limited. In creating its fully integrated supply chain, Lynas Corporation has positioned itself to provide the world with a sustainable new supply source of Rare Earths.
