Raised in a rural farming community, I enjoyed the company of dogs, cats, and horses. My early dreams of being a ballerina were, sadly, crushed when I came to the realization that I was not very graceful and generally bad at ballet. My natural talents tended to run toward reading, color-coding my class notes, and organizing events.
In college, I continued to organize events and in the process, discovered the true meaning of friendship. I also developed a love of flannel and Pearl Jam.
Graduation found me breaking it off with flannel (but not Pearl Jam) and heading to a new state to try my hand at "the real world." My marketing degree and winning smile* landed me a gig in a small company where I analyzed emotions as they related to decision-making. While the work was very interesting (I'm serious – it was) and the people kind, my heart had other plans. Yearning for a creative outlet, I took classes in photography, drawing, and bought a beret. One day, I heard a story about a graphic designer and it all became clear: that's what I needed to do.
Over the next few years, I bought my first Mac, took typography classes, read design books, dabbled in glass blowing, designed wedding invitations, went on safari, learned how to letterpress, and met the talented women who are now my business partners.
These days, I spend my time chatting with small business owners about target markets, product packaging, and e-commerce solutions. I collaborate with my partners on marketing plans, logo designs, and Pinterest boards. Sometimes I co-work with Silicon Valley smarties and other times with my dogs (who have founded fewer start-ups, but are much better at napping).
I enjoy talking to interesting people, riding bikes, and playing with the aforementioned dogs. I'm also a big fan of California's neon signs, natural wonders, and abundance of tacos. The end.
