Hailing from the Catskill Mountains, Mark Roman learned on the job in the Woodstock area from old-school New York musicians the likes of Lee Shaw, Eddie Diehl & Bishop O’Brien. As a bassist, his early mentors also included alumni of The Mose Allison Trio, The Horace Silver Quintet, The Tito Puente Orchestra & The Jazz Messengers.

While based in Brooklyn 2008-2011, he branched out into other genres, performing throughout Appalachia with The Defibulators and around New York with Amayo's FU Arkist-Ra (feat. members of Antibalas, The Dap-Kings).

During a decade spent cutting his teeth in Berlin as a songwriter & recording artist, Mark toured Europe, among others with Lord Mouse & the Kalypso Katz (Piranha). Other notworthy projects included collaborations with Stoneage Kid (aka Sebastian Maschat of The Whitest Boy Alive) & garage rock pioneer Rudi Protrudi (The Fuzztones). Recent collaborations in New York have included performances with indy-folk band Bluestone Quarry and songwriter Kate Prascher.

His own songwriting drives mid-century Americana home via distinctive melodies, while clever original lyrics let the songs do all the talking. The forthcoming vocal EP Seasonal Allegories follows on an earlier instrumental release entitled Crown Heights Kings County (2011). Both feature Mark as composer/arranger and band-leader/producer.

Look out for these releases coming to your favorite streaming platforms in 2024!
