Dr. Amit K Mathur MD, MS, FACS is a transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, where he is a Consultant in the Division of Transplant Surgery and Surgical Director of Liver Transplantation. He is a Professor of Surgery in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

His clinical practice focuses on liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation. He has a deep interest in optimizing clinical outcomes in the setting of transplants utilizing extended criteria donor organs. He also conducts surgery of the liver, pancreas, and bile duct using open and minimally-invasive techniques.

Dr. Mathur serves as the Mayo Clinic Enterprise Chair for Transplant Quality and as an Associate Medical Director in Contracting and Payer Relations. He has previously served as the Fellowship Director for Abdominal Transplant Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.

Dr. Mathur earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Florida. He completed his general, ASTS-certified transplant, and HPB surgical training at the University of Michigan. He is board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

He completed a two-year health services research fellowship and obtained a Masters in Health and Health Care Research from the University of Michigan School of Public Health. He was a visiting scholar at the Scientific Registry for Transplant Recipients from 2008-2010. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Mathur's research focuses on quality and access to care, clinical outcomes, and health care delivery in surgery, end organ failure, and transplantation. He serves as Program Evaluation Specialist for the National Living Donor Assistance Center, which focuses on removing financial disincentives to living donation.

He has published in several key journals including JAMA, Annals of Surgery, American Journal of Transplantation, Liver Transplantation, Transplantation, JAMA Surgery, and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Mathur is a passionate leader and has served in several national roles at ASTS, UNOS/OPTN, TACC, AASLD, and AHPBA to advance practices, policy, education, research, and quality in the field of transplantation. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Liver Transplantation and is an invited reviewer for multiple surgical and transplant journals.

He and his family live in Scottsdale.
