When I was young, I wanted to be a Renaissance man -- a man who is interested in and knows about many things (Webster). It's a journey -- with lots to learn along the way!
I love solving problems, troubleshooting and finding patterns. With over 25 years experience, I've worked with a large variety of technologies and enjoy bringing these skills to bear in providing end-to-end solutions. I'm a firm believer in putting tools and processes in place to reduce the number of calls in the middle of the night -- in one position we would get 3-4 unplanned calls a week; with hard work and diligence it was reduced to ~10 in a year. It's better to catch problems sooner than later and as a rule of thumb outage alerts should never come from customers!
Recently I've been captivated by the problem area of predictive scaling on demand within the cloud - utilizing logs, metrics, and historical data with machine learning to create architectures which scale without human intervention. This ties together the complete stack from code and services down to hardware and networks.
Outside of IT, I am a handweaver, roast coffee, read lots of books, and experiment in the kitchen.
