I used to say if there's hope for humanity it's in software. But now I realize if there is hope for software it is only in our humanity.
If we are to boldly go where no one has gone before, we're going to have to figure out how to get through the rest of the 21st century relatively intact, and somehow avoid the seemingly inevitable traps. When burgeoning populations battle over dwindling resources, it seems to me that "software" -- as a metaphor for ephemeralization (i.e.: increasing productivity) -- is our best hope short of divine intervention or ET invasion.
I am a big fan of software done well and used for the positive outcomes. I've been a developer, data scientist, evangelist, and unapologetic proponent of software development, developer culture, and the potential for all the great stuff yet to come that Moore's Law cum the Network Age has in store.
I also have an appreciation for marketing excellence. I love it when it's done well.
I've been the CMO for a software company, the CTO of a marketing start-up, a developer and software evangelist, a data scientist and a teacher, a leader, a follower, an author, a teacher, an actor, a musician, an entrepreneur, and a mentor.
And with any luck, I'm just getting started.
