Mariella Azzato is Full Professor at the Design, Architecture and Plastic Arts Department of the Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB). She obtained the title of Architect in 1991 and completed a postgraduate degree in Educational Informatics in 1999, both at the USB. In 2011, Mariella received the Doctorate in Education from the University of Barcelona in Spain. A year later, she obtained a certification in Management and University Leadership from the Institute for University Management and Leadership (IGLU), program of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE).

Mariella began her academic career at Universidad Simón Bolívar in 1995; since then, her area of expertise has been the development of digital strategies for education, performing as coach on disruptive communication and technology. This allowed her to be invited by several different universities in Latin America and Spain as visiting professor.

In the last ten years, along with her academic performance, Mariella has exercised leadership roles at the USB. From 2010 to 2015, she assumed the Direction of the Media Unit to promote and develop the institutional model of online education and acted as policy advisor for higher education at the USB. From 2015 to 2021, she exercised the role of Administrative Vice Chancellor and also attended, for several months, the functions of Secretary and Academic Vice Chancellor.

Mariella is the author of the books “Reading and writing with images: fundamentals of the digital language” and “Educate with images”. She has published more than 20 articles related with education and the available digital technologies. In 2008, she was deserving of the Biennial Award for the Best innovations in teaching mediated by information and communication technologies (USB).
