Derek L. McCoy is an award winning educator with successful experience as a school administrator, trainer, presenter and concept driver. His administrative experience ranges from assistant principal in middle schools and high schools, Director or Curriculum and Innovation and currently, middle school principal.

Derek has presented in several states and conferences on topics ranging from Building Professional Learning Networks to Promoting School Brands. He is the co-moderator of the #edfocus and #ncadmin chats, both are forums for supporting educators worldwide in efforts to change teaching to advance student learning and achievement.

In 2014, he was recognized by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, NASSP, with the Digital Principal of the Year award. This was in recognition for his work with social media in his practice and helping his school, leading initiatives to integrate technology in teaching and learning in his school and helping other educators grow in their practices and build their PLNs.
