Michael Scroggins

I am a PhD student in Anthropology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia. Currently I am conducting research in and around Silicon Valley on DIYBio and Citizen Science in hackerspaces and other informal institutions (this means garages and kitchens for the most part).

Theoretically, I am interested in the productive elements of ignorance (ala Ranciere and Jacotot), bricolage of all sorts, and the disinterested study of educational phenomena (a surprisingly thorny problem).

Practically, I am interested in how middens serve as a resource for the production of new forms of social life which cut, quite unexpectedly, across a wide range of boundaries.
