Michael Bither

Dr. Michael Bither has extensive experience in geriatric medicine. At Southern Maine Geriatrics Associates, a practice he has owned for more than 10 years, he serves as an Attending Physician to those advancing in age who may also show signs of frailty. Moreover, he oversees a team of physicians and nurse practitioners in treating more than 800 patients in nine facilities throughout southern Maine, that provide assisted living, rehabilitation, and skilled care. Dr. Michael Bither and his fellow physicians also work with individuals in nursing homes. In addition, Dr. Bither is on the consulting staff at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick and the Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Michael Bither holds membership in a number of professional organizations. A founding Member of the Maine Medical Directors Association, he also participates in the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, The American Geriatrics Society, and the American Academy of Family Medicine. Furthermore, he has contributed to several committees as a Member of the American Medical Directors Association.

Dr. Michael Bither attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, where he earned his Bachelor of Science. He obtained his medical degree at Eberhard Karls University in Tuebingen, West Germany. Subsequently, he moved to Portland, Maine, to complete his residency, which focused on family medicine. Dr. Bither is bilingual, and he prioritizes keeping his German skills fresh. Outside of work, he likes to spend time with his family and pursue outdoor recreational activities, such as hiking, skiing, fishing, and hunting.
