Michael Papuc Attorney

San Francisco, California

In 1995, San Francisco attorney Michael Papuc opened his own law practice, where he offers individual and small business clients with assistance in matters such as mechanics' lien and collection law, employment law, insurance coverage and bad faith, and bankruptcy. Michael Papuc also represents clients in cases involving business disputes, theft of trade secrets, and issues specific to residents of San Francisco. In particular, Mr. Papuc has experience in wrongful eviction cases and San Francisco Rent Control Ordinance matters.

Over the course of his career as a lawyer, Michael Papuc has obtained six-figure settlements for several of his clients. In a recent appellate case, Phillips, Spallas & Angstadt, LLP v. Fotouhi, he prevailed on behalf of his clients in securing a charging order against a lawyer's interest in his former partnership. The April 2011 decision allows Phillips, Spallas & Angstadt to collect 15 percent of the net profits from interest in a successor corporation that followed the dissolution of Mr. Fotouhi's former partnership. The assets will be utilized to pay a $2.4 million judgment previously awarded to the firm.

Before beginning his legal career, Michael Papuc served as a diesel mechanic in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, while simultaneously earning his Bachelor's degree in Economics at Brooklyn College in New York. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1987, and was admitted to practice by the California State Bar in the same year. After graduating, he served as an Associate Attorney with Kornblum, Kelly, and Herlihy for two years. He primarily undertook litigation defense in insurance bad faith cases. From 1989 to 1995, he acted as a Litigation Attorney with Thornton, Taylor & Downs, a law firm with similar practice areas.

In his free time, Michael Papuc enjoys outdoor activities such as bicycling.
