Michelle Carr Hassler is an award-winning faculty member at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she teaches multimedia reporting, online journalism, social media and news engagement.

She is passionate about teaching students how to think big and in new ways by helping them take advantage of all that digital journalism has to offer. She teaches Nebraska Mosaic, a capstone journalism course in which students publish a website for and about Nebraska's refugees and immigrants. She also created UNL’s first social media course for journalism majors and designed a news engagement course in collaboration with NET News.

Her innovative teaching has been recognized nationally by Journalism Interactive and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

She also serves as executive director of the Nebraska High School Press Association, which provides support for teachers and advisersresponsible for high school publications and works to establish standards ofexcellence for scholastic journalismin the state.

Before joining the UNL faculty in 1998, she spent 16 years working as a reporter and editor at newspapers in Colorado, Arizona and Nebraska. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in English from UNL.
