I'm 51 years-old. I'm more or less retired, having worked in Corporate America for 35 odd-years. The last 15 years were spent as an IT Professional (Ok, I was a desktop jockey and became a Team Lead then a Supervisor of same) at a major retailer based in Columbus, Ohio. I married my wife Hannah in in Washington, D.C. in 2010. About 2 years ago, she had the opportunity to take a job over here in Germany. She is also an IT Professional.
If you're reading this its because you clicked on the "About" link on my blog, Progressive Social Democracy Inc. It is my intention to grow the blog. I'm a huge believer in the power of social media to change opinion and to move small mountains. I believe for example that Facebook played a role, however small, in the re-election of President Barack Obama.
We live in a working Social Democracy. The most successful Nation-States within the EU (or within Europe) curiously, are the German States: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. You can throw Iceland in there as well. The Czech Republic is doing pretty well, too. Why? Social Democracy as an economic and social structure works. Unlike the United States of America, in most European States, if you have a job - you have respect. In the US, many professions are denigrated and rewarded with poverty-level wages in order to swell the pockets of corporate owner-operators and executives. Europeans support their economies by spending their money regardless of economic indicators and they support paying living wages so their fellow countrymen can also support the economy. There are huge barriers in the United States that prevent this socio-economic system from becoming a reality. Let's help change that.
